Today We Remember

Today we remember.

This day, one year ago, we lost our naïveté. White nationalism marched down Pennsylvania Ave. White nationalism stormed the Capital, threatened elected officials, attacked law enforcement, and changed our nation forever. What we saw, we cannot unsee.

Today we remember.

This day, one year ago, we lost our moral center. Yet even now we can’t seem to look, really look, at who we’ve become. “Just another day in January,” says Pence. Instead of accountability, let’s adopt conspiracy. What we saw, we cannot unsee.

Today we remember.

This day, one year ago, we lost each other. No longer united as Americans, mobs marched under Trump flags. Carrying spears and bats we became “right” against “left.” Patriot against police. It’s all a Big Lie. What we saw, we cannot unsee.

Today we remember.

This day, one year ago, we faced a choice. That choice remains before us to this day. Are we brave enough to see? To see who we are. To see who we are not. To see who we could be.

January 6, 2021, changed us. One year later, we still aren’t sure what kind of country we will be.

I pray we choose to be a nation of integrity. What we saw we can’t unsee.

This is our choice, our work, our calling going forward. Who shall we be?

We are in this together,

Cameron
